This Design Build project includes interior and exterior renovations to a historically significant elementary school in Washington, DC. The scoop of work includes expansion and renovation of the kitchen and cafeteria spaces, site work, a new elevator and new HVAC Systems. Winmar worked with The DC State Historic Preservation Office and the US Commission of Fine Arts to ensure the educational specifications space requirements were met. Work included demolition of existing floor slabs and lowering the slabs to the elevation of the existing cafeteria. Building the kitchen space required excavation of the entire area and underpinning the existing foundations. Exterior work also included the regrading of the existing parking lot to create a new loading dock for the new kitchen. We replaced the existing elevator with a new 4,000 lb, ADA compliant elevator. The new loading dock required parking and traffic flow to be redirected and provided new fencing and relocation of existing dumpsters and compactor. We replaced the existing HVAC systems for the portions of the space that had steam heat and window ac units. We also constructed temporary swing space as the renovations occurred in the occupancy phase of the project.
